Next Stop on the Cookin Train

(Source: bestuff.com)

Since the one summer I interned at the airport, I have been wanting to try to learn how to make and to try a strawberry rhubarb pie. I don't know why I am starting to think it is the name. So here is the recipe if you too ever might want to try it.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 pound fresh rhubarb, chopped
  • 2 pints fresh strawberries
  • 1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour and sugar. Add strawberries and chopped rhubarb. Toss with sugar and flour and let stand for 30 minutes.
  2. Pour filling into pie crust. Dot top with butter, and cover with top crust. Seal edges of top and bottom crust with water.
  3. Apply yolk to top of pie, using a pastry brush. Sprinkle with sugar. Cut small holes in top to let steam escape.
  4. Bake at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C), for 35 to 40 minutes, or until bubbly and brown. Cool on rack.

Soul or No Soul

(source: meetup.com)

I remember the other day my friend and I were talking about soul food restaurants and how good the food compares to the original soul food from down south. Well it looks like the north does not compare at all. Sylvia's which is one of the most famous soul food restaurants in NYC is "supposed" to have good food; well let's just say it sucks. Well I feel suck is such a hard word I say it is not authentic soul food. Many people who are from the north find this establishment is one of the best, but trust me if you grew up in the south you just know that it is not. But I will not bash too much I will let you check it out for yourself.

Yummy Yummy for My Tummy

So the other day I decided to cook my favorite meal; Curry Chicken! I was truly happy I had some chicken already seasoned in the fridge which made cooking even more of a breeze. Yes, I know that I made two starches but corn is a vegetable is it not. Also if you didn't know me I love anything that is curry, so yea this was an overall winner. So if you ever want the key to my heart and stomach make sure to cook me some curry.

Ocha Tocha

(source: Me)

If you are in Hollywood California and you are looking for a famous establishment that has stayed true to it's small time charm then you need to check out Ocha. It is one of the cutest Thai places I have ever eaten at. Don't judge it by it's outside. We spent my dad's going away dinner here. My favorite part of the meal was the seafood soup. In the center there is a flame shooting up to keep it warm. I love the lemony taste that the soup has. The other food is also spectacular but the soup is a must with every meal. This is also a steal on the wallet. Guy's this would make a good date ;).

Just a little grease!

(source: Me)

Last weekend I went to California to go visit my father over the long weekend. I had the privilege of dinning at one of the coolest pizza places ever. It is like cafeteria style seating. They have a pizza for every pizza lover, and they do not hold back on the grease either. (yumm) My personal favorite is the fact that they brew their own beer here, so if you happen to be older than 21 make sure to check it out. It is one of the smoothest beers I have I have ever tasted. The prices are also very reasonable.

Place: Pizza Port

It's all about me, me, me, me, me!

Well you may or may not know, but my name is Khamika. I decided to write a blog about the different foods like, because I am a food enthusiast, duh. Well anyway, I am currently a college student who has a diverse background. I am part Indian and part black. I was born in Trinidad, so I basically grew up with a love for food. I want to share  this love and passion with the world, so why not start a blog. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I will enjoy blogging for you guys.
